Lighthouses

Last Update: April 25, 2011

I don't know what kindled my interest in lighthouses, perhaps it was because they were a readily available subject for photography or maybe I had a soft spot for them after working in the Michigan Youth Corps restoring the Sand Point Lighthouse in Escanaba, Michigan. In any case there is something about lighthouses that reaches out and touches many of us. It could be they remind us of of times long gone, the feeling of isolation when you explore their remote and secluded locations, or the calming effect of the nearby water. I am fortunate to have grown up in an area with so many of these historical structures - each with its own unique style, personality, and history.
