Whitefish Point

Last Update: April 20, 2011

To me the steel tower of Whitefish Point does not evoke the romantic images of the more classical lighthouses like AuSable Point, but nevertheless, there is much history to be found here. The lighthouse and associated outbuildings are in very good shape and another beautiful Lake Superior beach awaits visitors.

Only a short distrance from this stretch of Lake Superior, the Edmund Fitzgerald mysteriously sank, taking with her the entire crew. (Some of you may have heard the song from Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.) The bell from the ill-fated ship is housed here in the Great Lakes Shipwreck museum.
